Bell Work: With your group, refresh your memory and discuss some of the classroom rules and procedures (Everyone should be able to contribute at least one). Be ready to share with the class. Is there anything additional that you feel you need to feel safe in our nice little (future lake view) learning environment? | Agenda: Bell Work 1.) Share Your Name Tent 2.) Rally Table- Civics Predictions 3.) Video 4.) Group Discussions on Civics' Importance 5.) Name Game Break 6.) Goal Setting/ Letter to Future Self |
Task I: We will share our name tents beginning with Group 6 and working backwards numbers 4-1. Proudly display your name tent and share one thing that you wrote in one of the 4 corners.
Task II: With your tables we will have two minutes to "Rally" which means you will go around from numbers 1-4 and predict things we will cover in civics this year! (Everyone can write or you may have someone volunteer to be secretary). Wait for Ms. Furgi to say GO! :)

Task IV: Group Discussion on Importance of Civics- why do we need it, what topics do you think will be covered now? Speak with your groups for five minutes then be ready to share with the class.
Task V: Come up with a gesture to go with your name, we will work around the circle copying the gesture and your name. Example: Saying "Johnny" and pretending to hit a baseball. Let's see how many people's names you have memorized.
Task VI: Goal Setting is Important! Sometimes we have goals but it is not enough to just think them. Writing our goals down makes them real. Today you will write a letter to your future self (you will get some special mail the last weeks of school.
Some helpful notes:
* Take your time writing your letter!
* Be honest
* Be realistic and detailed!
Your goals do not need to be all academic, maybe you want to branch out and make some new friends or try out for a new club or team. Explain the benefits of your goals and the steps you will take to achieve them.*
At the end of the letter, give yourself a positive message- this could be a quote, words of encouragement or simply a reminder that Mrs. Furgi believes in you and thinks you're amazing! Don't forget to sign and date your letter!
Your letter within envelope is your ticket out of class today!
