Task I: We will work together in our groups to fill out the following chart (draw a copy in your Journal)
Task II: You already know that one of the big arguments between the Federalists and Anti-Federalists was over whether to ratify (approve) the Constitution or not! The Anti-Federalists wanted a Bill of Rights included- and you also already know that they got what they wanted and the Constitution was finally passed (making the Federalists happy too!). Using the chart we completed together in Task I, I would like you to discuss in your groups and right a bill of rights for the classroom!
Important topics to consider include:
Important topics to consider include:
- What specific protections for individuals should be guaranteed?
- What limitations on authority should be included?
- How will the class determine what to include in this Bill of Rights? Simple majority? Super-majority? Unanimous vote? What vote does the teacher or administration have?
Task III: Within your group, you will think even more about how the Bill of Rights (Specifically Amendment 1 today) applies to YOU, each and every day! View the handout provided (copied below) and follow the directions on the assignment. I'm looking forward to your creative responses!
